We welcome our new W1 professor, Dr.-Ing. Yitian Shao, at the Cluster of Excellence CeTI. His research focuses on wearable technologies, haptic interfaces, augmented/virtual reality, and artificial tactile sensing. He received his Ph.D. in electrical and computer engineering from the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB) in 2020. He also earned an M.S. degree from UCSB in 2019. He received a B.E. degree in electrical engineering and automation from Tianjin University, China, in 2013. He was a postdoctoral researcher at the Max Planck Institute for Intelligent Systems from 2021 to 2022. He worked as a research intern at Microsoft Applied Sciences Group in 2019.

What motivated you to do what you do today?
My passion and interests on exploring how engineering can improve the quality of human life, specifically, how haptic technologies can better integrate machines and cyberspaces into our daily lives.
What do you find particularly interesting about CeTI?
CeTI consists of a large number of multidisciplinary and collaborative research teams, influxed with interesting ideas, team spirits, and excellent research.
What question have you not had an answer to recently and have you been able to find it?
How a blend of physical and digital worlds will impact human life in the next century? Still try to find the answer.
How do you spend your free time?
Train travelling, sightseeing, exploring food culture, hiking, and movies.
