From October to December of last year, Mingyu Ma, a PhD researcher at CeTI, had the unique opportunity to work as a visiting student at the WiNES Lab at Northeastern University in Boston, USA. This experience allowed him to expand his expertise, collaborate with leading researchers, and explore innovative approaches in the field of wireless systems and network virtualization.

While at the WiNES Lab, Mingyu’s research focused on investigating the potential of using NVIDIA BlueField DPUs to accelerate the User Plane Function in 5G networks. His work aimed to explore how this state-of-the-art technology could enhance the performance and efficiency of future network architectures. This cutting-edge research has the potential to significantly improve the speed and reliability of 5G networks, contributing to the evolution of next-generation communication systems.

The lab’s strong focus on wireless systems and network virtualization as a key enabler of future network architectures provided a perspective that is highly complementary to my work at CeTI.

Back in Germany, Mingyu is continuing his research at TU Dresden, where he works at the Junior Professorship for Haptic Communication Systems as part of CeTI. His ongoing work focuses on advancing research in communication technologies that connect humans and machines in real-time, contributing to CeTI’s mission of shaping the future of human-technology interaction.

This international collaboration between CeTI and the WiNES Lab highlights the incredible value of combining insights from diverse research areas to develop tomorrow’s networks. Such exchanges foster global innovation and drive impactful advancements in technology, enabling researchers like Mingyu to tackle complex challenges with fresh perspectives and cutting-edge tools.

CeTI continues to support its researchers in seizing such opportunities, empowering them to contribute to fundamental developments in communication systems and beyond. For more information about our researchers and their exciting projects, visit the CeTI website and follow us on social media!
