Curriculum Vitae
Dariusz O’Leary earned his bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Psychopathology/Clinical Neuropsychology at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität Munich, followed by a master’s degree in Human Cognitive Neuropsychology at the University of Edinburgh. Since February 2022, he has been pursuing his PhD at the Chair of Lifespan Developmental Neuroscience at TU Dresden. In January 2026, he joined CeTI, where he continues his research on how the multisensory representation of peripersonal space adapts in virtual reality environments, with a particular focus on age-related differences in this adaptation.
Projects / Cooperations within CeTI your are involved in:
- Adult age differences in the modulation of peripersonal space after tool use in virtual reality
What are the main topics or questions that drive your research?
I am interested in the multisensory mechanisms underlying the neurocognitive representation of space around the body, known as peripersonal space. A key question in my work is how this representation adapts in virtual reality, and whether this adaptation differs between younger and older adults.
What inspired you to pursue your current field of work ?
I have always been fascinated by how perception is not a passive process, but something the brain actively constructs from multiple signals. At the same time, the rise of virtual reality made me curious about how perception adapts in these new environments and how such technologies can be designed to be inclusive of individual differences in perceptual experiences.
What excites you most about being part of CeTI?
I am most excited about the interdisciplinary environment at CeTI. Being part of a project where psychology, neuroscience, technology, and design intersect creates exciting possibilities to investigate research questions in innovative, applied ways.
Which challenge or question has recently sparked your curiosity?
I am currently curious about how the sense of virtual embodiment is related to our representation of peripersonal space in VR and how age influences this relationship.
How do you like to recharge or spend your time outside of work?
I enjoy spending time outdoors, reading, and listening to music. I also like making new experiences, whether that is exploring a new place, trying a new recipe, or meeting new people.
