Riccardo Bassoli

Riccardo Bassoli is Assistant Professor at the Deutsche Telekom Chair of Communication Networks and Head of the Quantum Communication Networks Research Group, at Faculty of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Technische Universitat Dresden (Germany). He received his B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees in Telecommunications Engineering from University of Modena and Reggio Emilia (Italy) in 2008 and 2010 respectively. Next, he received his Ph.D. degree from 5G Innovation Centre at University of Surrey (UK), in 2016. He was also a Marie Curie Early Stage Researcher at Instituto de Telecomunicações (Portugal) and visiting researcher at Airbus Defence and Space (France). Between 2016 and 2019, he was postdoctoral researcher at University of Trento (Italy). Next, between 2019 and 2022, he was Senior Researcher at Technische Universität Dresden (Germany).

Further Questions:

What do you value most about your work at CeTI?

Joining the CeTI Excellence Cluster and its teams is very valuable for my ongoing research on quantum communication networks and 6G. The range on interdisciplinary skills in CeTI will help to have a both wider and highly- detailed perspective on the complex challenges I am going to address. This is
fundamental to have a realistic view on the feasibility of the communication systems and their development. Moreover, the collaboration of CeTI with various
industrial projects can be very beneficial to also envision how the solutions that will be proposed for quantum communications and 6G will be applicable to enhance industrial scenarios and future manufacturing.

How do you spend your spare time?

In my free time, I like reading books about different subjects and authors in classic poetry, ancient languages, phylosophy, phylosophy of science, economy,
mathematics, and physics. When I have the possibility I also like sailing, skiing, and hiking.
