How will we interact with robots in the future? How does the Tactile Internet reshape our perception within the Metaverse? And what is the role of the human element in an increasingly digitalized world?

The CeTI Cluster of Excellence at TU Dresden has reached a major milestone in international research. With the official launch of “Humans, Robots and Virtual Worlds in the Tactile Internet”, published by the renowned Elsevier, a comprehensive guide is now available that illuminates the vision of the Tactile Internet from a truly multidisciplinary perspective.

A Bridge Between Disciplines

Research at CeTI is unique because of its collaborative spirit: experts from psychology, medicine, electrical engineering, communication technology, robotics, and technical design work side-by-side. This diversity is reflected in the chapters of the book. It is far more than a technical manual; it is a roadmap for the synergistic connection between humans and machines.

“To maximize the value of automation, we must design not just for performance, but for the human experience of trustworthiness.”

This core principle guides the entire volume. It investigates how we can utilize haptic feedback, ultra-low latency, and AI-driven systems to seamlessly merge physical and digital environments.

Relevance for Research, Industry, and Society

Why is this book essential at this moment? The answer lies in the ongoing transformation of our professional and personal lives:

  • For Academia: The book provides researchers and students with a deep dive into the components, sensors, and communication systems that underpin the Tactile Internet. It serves as a foundation for future innovations in human-computer interaction (HCI).

  • For Industry: The publication outlines concrete application scenarios in telemedicine, Industry 4.0, and digital education. Companies gain valuable insights into how haptic communication technologies can increase efficiency and open new business fields in the Metaverse.

  • For Our Partners and Funders: This work underscores CeTI’s position as a global leader in the field. It demonstrates how funding from the German Research Foundation (DFG) is translated into world-class research with both theoretical depth and tangible practical impact.

The Future of the “Human-in-the-Loop”

From exploring the plasticity of the human brain to the development of high-precision robotic grippers, the book covers the full spectrum of CeTI’s research. It is an invitation to the global tech community to join us on the journey toward the Tactile Internet.

We invite researchers, industry professionals, and technology enthusiasts to explore this comprehensive look into the future of communication technology.

The book is available for purchase on Elsevier.
