My name is Helmuth and I studied electrical engineering with a specialization in microelectronics. I am currently working at the Chair of Circuit Technology at the Technical University in Dresden and, as part of the CeTI research project, I am developing hardware for a radio system that wirelessly connects sensor nodes on the body. The electronics should be as small as possible and, ideally, the whole thing should be energy self-sufficient.

How were you at school?

Usually very tired, as lessons started far too early.

What was your dream job as a child?

I always wanted to be a shepherd. Just my dog, the sheep and me. Maybe I’ll come back to it after my doctorate.

Do you prefer coffee or tea?

There is some fantastic coffee, e.g. freshly ground from a portafilter machine, but my heart beats for tea. There are lots of great varieties and you should definitely try tea cocktails.

What is your favorite thing to do in your free time?

Definitely gardening. I love things that grow (stolen from Lord of the Rings but still true). Plants are just totally amazing creatures: Adaptable, communicative, powerful, flowers, fruits – insane.

What really drives you up the wall?

It requires a lifting platform, but I’ve also met people who have only been able to do it with just a rope.
